Hand Drawing Perspective

Author of the Proyect

Name: Glenn Mercutt

Country of Birth: Australia

University: University of New South Gales

Concept of the Proyect:
In the idiosyncratic detailing of this glazing mechanism, in the flamboyant forms of the roof-windows, in the use of coloured glass, and in the various concealed doors and windows, there is something of the quirkiness that often characterises houses of the 1900s. Although the revisions are unambiguously modern, the spirit of the original building has been respected. The new work has both the consistency that is part of modernist theory, and the inconsistency of exploited opportunities for casual delight. In the intensity of its invention and the intricacy of
its materiality, and especially in its very urbane wit, it bears comparison with the finest works of Charles Rennie Macintosh, rather than with the work of Mies, whose influence was so explicit in Murcutt’s earliest architecture.
